Promoting and dreaming of a greener institution, Leon Ganzon Polytechnic College joins the Bureau of Fire Protection-Balasan Fire Station in their Tree-Growing Activity held this morning, November 14, 2024.
The said activity is part of the adherence of the Balasan Fire Station to the “Tatak Ilonggo Kaligtasan Aming Layunin” or T.I.K.A.L program of the BFP Iloilo Provincial Office, with the advocacy to respond to the issues affecting the local community
To answer the call for collaboration, LGPC provided the BFP-Balasan an area within the school to be adopted for their Tree-Growing Activity and also prepared Falcata and Fire Tree seedlings for the participating personnel to plant.
The seedlings, specifically the Falcata, were donations of Board Member Binky April M. Tupas from her nursery in the Northern Iloilo State University-Estancia campus, while the Fire Tree seedlings were provided by Mr. Juber H. Pasco of Barangay Lawis, Balasan.
Heading the faculty and staff of LGPC during the tree planting, Dr. Ariel Reckonette B. Villanueva, Vocational School Superintendent I, proudly planted five Fire Tree seedlings and completed its aftercare by watering and fencing the plants.
Meanwhile, FSINSP Delsie S. De Borja, Municipal Fire Marshal, headed the team of Fire Officers, PNP Officers, MDRRM Staff, and Criminology Interns in planting the rest of the seedlings.
Through this collaboration with LGPC, the BFP-Balasan aims to promote sustainability, and enhance environmental awareness and community engagement by involving local stakeholders in planting and nurturing trees.
As Wangari Maathai said, “Until you dig a hole, you plant a tree, you water it and make it survive, you haven’t done a thing. You are just talking”,and so with shovels and gloves, each personnel filled a hole with a seedling that carried the hope for a cleaner airspace, a greener space, and a place closer to nature’s embrace.
The Tree-Growing Activity concluded with approximately 60 seedlings planted through the joint effort of LGPC, BFP, PNP and MDRRM; marking a milestone in the history of the community and paving the path to more future collaborations between the agencies.
